One of my favorite desserts has always been ice cream. I really like gelato, soft serve, and danderma ice cream. For a while I have been going to Mado in Bidaa to eat their famous danderma block served on a piece of cold marble. The quality of their ice cream is superb, but make sure you get the ice cream extremely cold to experience the perfect taste. Mado serves both food and dessert, but I usually go for dessert only, because their food is average.
Today while I was walking in the Avenues, I saw Mado Dondurma, which is the same concept, but focused on desserts only. I got the danderma block to go, and sat on a bench and I started eating it. It was extremely delicious and I am officially ranking it the best ice cream in Kuwait period. Try it out and let me know what you think.
Every Thursday we go to the farm, and every time we go, we bring a BBQ box from a restaurant. We tried a lot of them, and until today the best one is Just C Burger BBQ Box. The burger is perfect, the bun is very soft, and the vegetables are always fresh. Their fried onions topping is very delicious and if you have it with their special sauce, it gets even better. The thing I like about Just C is that they never downgraded their quality, they kept the quality consistent for a very long time. Honestly I believe that they surpassed international franchises in terms of quality, and Just C can be an international chain if they decide to expand overseas. During the holiday on Feb, we had a big birthday at my home. I ordered from Carriage and specified a specific time, but they couldn’t make it on time. I was really disappointed at that time, so I called and complained. They were late for 2 hours, so I cancelled the order and got a refund, because the kids were waiting. I thought that their staff and management won’t care that I was disappointed, because this is how it is in Kuwait. In Kuwait, even when I am a very loyal customer for many years, usually they don’t care about pleasing their customers. Surprisingly, the manager called me and sent me 2 BBQ boxes as an apology. I was really surprised, because that never happened to me in Kuwait. I was their loyal customer for a very long time, and will continue to do so, because Just C really take care of their customers.
Kuwait used to be a nicer place back in the 60’s and 70’s, but it is no longer the same. The government is constantly trying to clean up people’s mess. One of the really bad habits I see across Kuwait on daily basis, and it never stops is people feeding pigeons their trash. I can’t believe that people believe that feeding pigeons their trash is a good deed, because without their trash, they think that all pigeons will die.
Pigeons mostly eat seeds, which is very light on their stomach. In Kuwait it is a total different story, you will see people feeding the pigeons fried chicken, oily rice with meat, pile of hummus, samosa, baked zucchini, hareesa, and whatever leftovers they can find in the fridge.
The problem is that when pigeons eat all that trash, they poop everywhere, because they are not used to eat food that is extremely oily. Their poop becomes acidic and it damages buildings and statues. The poor government send people on daily basis to cleanup the trash that people throw for the pigeons.
I want to personally thank Q8 Needs You for their constant efforts to make Kuwait a more beautiful place.
Yoghi is an online stationary website based in Kuwait. They ship to the GCC and the rest of the world, and their shipping rates are very reasonable. One of the items that I really like is Yoghi soft tissue, and it either come in a box of 1 or box of 5. I really like the quality of the tissue, but what I like most is the design of the package. People ask me all the time, where did you get that tissue box from. I have always liked well designed products, and this is definitely one of them.
Buying from Yoghi made our lives much easier at the company, where we no longer have to go to Mirqab and negotiate prices. It is 1 click away from purchasing whatever we need, and if we don’t find a product, we talk to the customer service using the live chat feature and we get whatever we ask for. I also don’t have to remember what I ordered in the past, I just lookup my order history and order the same stuff again.
My favorite part of the website is the search, because it is very fast and superior. I don’t have to leave the homepage and move from one page to the other. Even if I mis-spell a word, it finds the product instantly. The customer service of Yoghi is great, and they are very responsive.
Life is more convenient than ever where a lot of things is shifting online, and finally a place like Mirqab which I really hate to go to have an online substitute.
TONS is the most innovative grocery app in the Middle East, and specifically Kuwait. Most of the time I don’t feel like driving to the supermarket, so I order everything online. Most of the apps and websites were very basic, and have a very limited selection of products. When TONS was released, it was a game changer, because they shoot their own high resolution pictures, and write down the nutrition facts of most of the products. There are 2 supermarkets as of now, which are Mishref and Shamiya, and more are joining soon.
The coolest feature in TONS app is the force touch where you can buy everything using one hand. To use the force touch feature, just choose a product and hold your finger until you see the sliding bar. When you push up, you increase the quantity of the product, and when you push down, you decrease the quantity. If you continue to push down, you can delete the product from the cart. This feature made shopping extremely simple, and I have never seen it in any other application in the market.
The most interesting thing is that their domain is www.tons.com which is a very rare domain to have since it is only 4 letters.
When you buy from TONS, they will assign a personal shopper to get all the products and groceries from the supermarket. They handpick the best groceries in the supermarket, but sometimes the groceries in the supermarket isn’t good quality. Overall, I really enjoy using the app, even though there is so much room for improvement.
The most beautiful thing is when I receive TONS bags and have my products and groceries inside them. The demand was very high for TONS that they sold out of all their bags, but more are coming soon.
There are tons of delivery companies in Kuwait, but you see a lot of them come and go. For businesses, it is easier to deal with an established company rather than someone new to the market. This is an issue that we personally faced where we used to search for the cheapest rate, and usually these companies are newly established. We sign with them and they work for few months and what happens is either they increase prices for realizing that they aren’t making money or they go out of business. Porter Express is one of the very first local courier companies established in Kuwait. They have improved a lot especially after the new management joined and they took things to the next level. Right now they are focused on large companies, but they also accept small businesses that have 15+ deliveries per day.
The other reason of Porter Express constant improvement is because they work with the international delivery companies. These companies have a very high standards. They won’t accept working with amateurs who aren’t taking the business seriously. I was surprised to see some delivery companies in Kuwait that has two to three drivers only, and these drivers work at the owners home. I don’t call that part-time work a delivery company. Now with the Corona virus, there is a surge in demand for all delivery companies in Kuwait. The big companies will only work with professional companies in Kuwait, which I can count with my fingers.
The latest service they offer is inventory where they store products within their warehouse and they handle delivery. It makes it much easier for businesses so they don’t have to worry about pick ups.
I finally found an amazing Tiramisu cake in Kuwait. Most of the times when you look for a cake, you try to find it at different bakeries, which was the case with me. I never expected to find the best tiramisu cake in an Italian restaurant in the avenues. Few days ago I was at the avenues, and I felt like to eat my very favorite nachos at Boccini restaurant, which is a must try by the way. I finished eating and the waiter suggested that I try their tiramisu, and I didn’t mind at all since I had room in my stomach. I tried it and it was perfect !!, then I got 2 more to go. When we tried the second day, it didn’t taste the same, so make sure to eat it in the restaurant, and you will go every time you crave an amazing cake.
