Starlink is Now Available in Kuwait – Ready to Order and Ship in 1 to 2 Weeks

3 Years ago, I reserved Starlink device as a backup internet for my home. Today, I got an email saying that it is ready to ship within 1-2 weeks and I have 30 days trial and no contract needed. I honestly didn’t expect by then that it will take 3 years, because the release date was suppose to be sometime in 2023. I honestly don’t need Starlink, but I will only keep it as a backup for my Zain, Ooredoo, and STC routers. I will add it as the 4th device on my load balancer for emergencies. Now coming back to the device, there are two devices which are the standard device, and mini.

Starlink Standard Device: The Standard device costs KD122 and is designed to be permanently installed at a fixed location such as a home or office. This option is ideal for users who want a stable, long term setup with minimal movement once installed.

Starlink Mini Device: The Mini device costs KD92 and offers a smaller and portable design. While it can be installed at home like the Standard version, the Mini is also easy to carry and use in different locations, making it ideal for travel, camping, or remote work.

Before officially selling Starlink, it was being sold in Kuwait at 150-209 KD. For example Sky Phone sold out at 209 KD

If you already own a Starlink device and account from another country, you cannot simply update the address to Kuwait. Instead, you must:

  • Cancel your existing subscription
  • Transfer the device to a new Kuwait based account
  • This step is necessary to activate service in Kuwait since it is part of SamaX now.

You can order it now without a reservation, I thought the reservation gave me priority, but that doesn’t feel it is the case. Go to Starlink website and check their devices, prices, and the optional accessories.

Starlink Direct to Cell is The Future of Phones & Networks

First Starlink revolutionized the internet where people can have access anywhere in the world. For me, it was one of the best experiences ever because I got high speed internet in an area where I was barely getting 7 MB. The setup was so simple and It started by having Starlink device and a router and that is basically it. Now the technology is going to be on a total different level where Starlink will activate direct to cell in 2025. I can’t wait for this day to come where I can have a signal and internet anywhere in the globe, and I mean anywhere whether in the north pole, in the middle of the sea or dessert, or anywhere else. People will be using their regular phones, but their network provider should work with Starlink. I honestly don’t know which company will be the first to offer such a service, but I assume it will be Zain for being the most innovative in Kuwait. I hope that Zain become one of the pioneers to do that partnership with Starlink.

The image above shows the way it works between the cellular company and Starlink. It doesn’t seem very complex, so I hope we get it as soon as possible. What I am currently doing when I travel is use Zain roaming in addition to a local sim of the country that I am visiting. I use 2 sim cards at the same time and turn on data switching where my Samsung Z Fold switch automatically between the two sim cards and use the sim card that is getting a better signal. Sometimes I still don’t get good signal in some places when I travel, so Starlink direct to Cell will solve all my issues.

Starlink Satellite Internet by SpaceX in Kuwait

My friends and I just reserved Starlink Satellite Internet by SpaceX for 30 KD. The deposit is fully refundable, so I am not worried about not getting the money back. I will keep it mainly for emergencies or if I ever go to a remote area. I believe I will eventually need it when the shark bites the internet cable again. I hear that it happens all the time and that’s why we get slower internet every now and then. Until today, I am not really sure if the shark story is real or not. For Starlink, I heard that the speeds are reaching 200 MB and the sky must be fully clear. That eliminates half of the year in Kuwait due to dust storms. I am a big fan of Elon Musk and I believe that he is shaping the future. Starlink basic is available in Kuwait, but Starlink Premium isn’t. The cost of the service according to The Verge “The base Starlink service costs $499 for the hardware and $99 a month, Starlink Premium will cost $2,500 for the antenna, and $500 a month”

My delivery should be sometime in 2023, and once I try it out, I will definitely review it.
